Athletes of SUBC have access to full training plans which are tapered for specific races and goals for individual crews.  Here at SUBC we are lucky enough to have a fully qualified physiotherapist for any injuries or pains.  Strength & conditioning as well as nutritional guidance is available for members who show outstanding performance and flare.

Training for all squads is looked after and organised by the men and women captains. You can contact them at info@ subc.org.uk or alternatively go to the contacts page for more information.

Training at SUBC will basically be as tough or as intense as you make it!  If from the start you want to throw yourself in at the deep end, the seniors will be training pretty much every day and you’ll be more than welcome to join them.  If on the other hand you feel you need to ease yourself into it then that’s cool too.  Fresher training takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday & Sunday, a brief outline of these sessions is given below:

Tuesday 9pm-10pm – This will be a land based fitness session taking place in the sports hall in the Tom Husband Leisure Centre. It’s usually a circuit’s session but every now and then we like to mix it up a bit, so you never know what you could be doing!   The aim of this session is two fold.  Firstly it’s to help improve your fitness, and secondly it’s about getting to know each other and having a good laugh.  Afterwards it’s off to Yours Bar for a well earned drink!

Besides the Tuesday circuit sessions we also have two early morning sessions in the Tom Husband leisure centre gym on a Monday and Thursday where we have exclusive use of the weight machines and ergs.  This runs between 8-9am.

Wednesday Afternoon – This takes place at the boathouse and will be a water session.  For the first few weeks you will go out in mixed crews of men and women and also a mix of freshers and seniors.  During these first few sessions you will be taught the basics of technique and how to row together as crew. You will receive coaching from the coach or a senior who will be in the safety boat alongside you.

Saturday & Sunday Morning – Again this is a water session aimed at improving technique whilst building fitness.  After a few weeks we will begin to prepare you for your first few races by splitting you into set crews and building race technique.
